On 5-6 June 2026, EPF, together with its Dutch member organisation Rover, welcomed around 163 participants to Maastricht for two days of discussions on the future of sustainable, inclusive and passenger-centred mobility in Europe.
Hosted at the Gouvernement aan de Maas (Provincial House of Limburg), the conference brought together passenger organisations, policymakers, transport operators, infrastructure managers, researchers and civil society representatives from across Europe. Participants explored a wide range of topics including cross-border mobility, accessibility, cycling and public transport integration, sustainable mobility funding, ticketing and passenger rights, doubling international rail passengers by 2030, shared mobility, and the role of users and passengers in shaping future transport systems.
The programme featured keynote speeches, panel discussions and interactive workshops. Highlights included a Youth Dialogue on Sustainable Mobility, a session on through-ticketing, and a workshop organised under the GEMINI and UPPER Horizon Europe projects on how public transport and shared mobility can work together to support modal shift. Participants discussed the opportunities and challenges of integrating shared mobility into public transport systems, the need for seamless information and ticketing solutions, accessibility requirements, and the role of cities in coordinating integrated mobility services.
The conference concluded with the signing of the Maastricht Manifesto for Integrated, Sustainable and Inclusive Mobility in the very building where the Maastricht Treaty was signed. Developed jointly by EPF, BEUC and EDF, the manifesto calls for public transport to become the first choice for mobility through improved service quality, better integration, stronger accessibility, affordability and stable long-term investment. It also stresses the importance of involving users and their representative organisations in policymaking and service design, ensuring that future transport systems respond to real passenger needs.
