The Youth on Track coalition, uniting youth organisations, consumer groups, and environmental NGOs, is calling on the EU to address the issue of rail ticket prices that are often higher than flights and that of booking systems that make cross-border train travel too complicated. With the Single Ticketing Package and the upcoming revision of VAT rules for passenger transport, Europe has a unique chance to make trains a more affordable and easier way to travel.

The new coalition, formed by Erasmus by Train, EU&U, European Youth Card Association, BEUC – The European Consumer Organisation, JEF Europe, Generation Climate Europe (GCE), World Scout Foundation, Europe on Rail, European Passengers’ Federation and T&E, wants to ensure the new legislation delivers on ticket affordability and is as ambitious as possible. From requiring rail operators to make their tickets available at external booking platforms to ensuring passengers can continue their journey at no extra cost in case of delays, there is a lot at stake.
