🚄✈️🌍 On 12 November 2025, EPF participated in a Lunch Debate at the European Parliament, hosted by MEP Sophia Kircher, entitled “Unlocking Seamless Multimodality in Europe”. The high-level event brought together the MultiModX, SIGN-AIR, and TravelWise projects — all funded by the SESAR Joint Undertaking — to explore how innovation, digitalisation, and harmonisation can help deliver a truly seamless, passenger-centric travel experience.

The discussion underscored the need to build stronger bridges between the air and rail sectors, supported by smarter data sharing, interoperable systems, and coordinated policies. Creating shared knowledge spaces and fostering collaboration between transport actors are key to understanding sector-specific realities and designing solutions that respond to passengers’ real needs — from integrated ticketing to better modelling tools.

🎤 Speakers included: Delphine Grandsart (European Passengers’ Federation), Micol Biscotto (Deep Blue/ TravelWise), Ismini Stroumpou (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya/ SIGN-AIR), Andrew Cook (University of Westminster/ MultiModX), with opening remarks by Sophia Kircher, MEP, and Andreas Boschen, Executive Director of SESAR JU.

💡Representing the voice of passengers in both policy and R&I, EPF works to ensure that technological solutions — and the commercial frameworks behind them — enable rather than hinder cooperation between transport service providers. Our goal: to remove the barriers that prevent passengers from enjoying a seamless, integrated, and reliable multimodal travel experience. In our view, the way forward is to:

  • Address key passenger barriers in multimodal travel – planning, booking, and disruption management – to deliver a seamless and reliable journey experience &
  • Address key market barriers – through Regulation, supported by R&I – to facilitate interoperability, incentivise cooperation, and safeguard passenger protection.
