On 20 November, EPF was present at the PAVE Europe Conference in Brussels, which brought together civil society, service and tech providers, policymakers, researchers, and more to exchange on automated mobility. The dynamic and interactive setting allowed for different perspectives and experiences to be shared.

EPF’s Katie Bulanowski attended the conference and moderated the session, “Trust, Safety and Public Confidence in Automated Vehicles (AVs)”. As part of PAVE Europe’s Women in AVs Initiative, this all-women panel explored how people can feel safe and confident using AVs. Panelists included a diverse range of voices; Stefanie Berliner (Holo), Lucile Ramackers (Famimob), Meera Naran (Independent Road Safety Campaigner), and Yasemin Us (ADASTEC).

The discussion highlighted that trust and safety may look differently to different people. However, panelists highlighted that clear communication, transparency, and meaningful co-design can help to empower the public as well as shape confidence in new technologies like AVs.

EPF was happy to participate in this panel and conference, as it aligns with our role in the EU-funded CCAMbassador project, where together with PAVE Europe, we will co-lead activities around AV public awareness.
