TheΒ SIGN-AIR project, in which EPF is a partner, is developing a one-stop-shop platform that enables Transport Service Providers (TSPs) – such as airports, airlines, and railway operators – to conclude Data Sharing Agreements and complementary Smart Contracts, and to efficiently manage their contractual relationships.
November was particularly busy, as the project enters its final six months ahead of completion in May 2026. Below are some key highlights.
π 12 November | European Parliament, Brussels | Lunch debate
At the high-level policy debate βUnlocking Seamless Multimodality in Europeβ, hosted by MEP Sophia Kircher, the MultiModX, SIGN-AIR, and Travel Wise projects discussed how innovation, digitalisation, and harmonisation can truly bridge the air-rail gap. EPF was honoured to join as a keynote speaker, bringing real passenger challenges into focus to kickstart the discussion on how both policy and R&I can help overcome barriers toward multimodal travel.

π 24 November 2025 | Bologna Airport | Stakeholder workshop
Over 50 participants – policy experts, transport and software engineers, and lawyers – joined SIGN-AIR’s 2nd Stakeholder workshop – Multimodality Matchmaking Edition. After a deep dive into the tech stack, we tested the platform hands-on by creating and negotiating a single-ticket data sharing agreement and smart contract.
EPF was happy to be invited by Bologna Airport to act as one of four test passengers in a live simulation. We travelled on a hypothetical single ticket, enabled by a data sharing agreement and a smart contract between a rail and air operator. When a disruption hit the first leg, the smart contract automatically adjusted responsibility sharing for a broken – but recoverable – Minimum Connecting Time. Through the (mock-up) ROGER app, we received proactive notifications and Fast Track access at the airport – and successfully caught our flight!

π 24-26 November 2025 | Bologna | Consortium meeting
The stakeholder workshop was followed by two productive SIGN-AIR consortium meeting days, hosted by TPER SPA and BLQ, with updates on platform progress, connectivity algorithms, contract templates, and the SIGN-AIR glossary, to which EPF contributes – plus some well-earned Bologna sightseeing and great food π.

π 26-28 November | Madrid | SIGN-AIR poster and presentations @ Rail Live
From Bologna, we moved directly to Madrid for Rail Live, Spainβs leading international railway focused exhibition and conference.Β At our exhibition stand & in our presentations, we showcased the SIGN-AIR project, highlighting how data sharing, smart contracts, and multimodal interoperability can transform airβrail integration. Additionally, we presented a SIGN-AIR poster in the Start-up Zone.
